Planning your own trip from start to finish can be a challenging task. Especially if you’re not a frequent traveller or if you’re used to a travel agent doing the groundwork for you. However, with all the booking sites you can find online today, it’s actually never been easier to be your own travel agent and plan your own trip.
But it can be very difficult to distinguish the good booking sites from the bad ones. That’s why, I’ve decided to make this page. Below you can find some of the booking sites which we have used/are still using/or find worthy enough to recommend to you.
Do you need help to plan before you’re ready to start booking? Check out: How to plan a trip in 2024.

Hotels
Booking.com
Booking.com is our go-to website to find the best deals on hotels, guesthouses, and hostels. We love to use Booking.com because of its easy interface and its great selection of hotels. Booking.com also price matches, have a membership program that gets you some great deals, and a wallet feature where you can earn on your stays.
Hostelworld
Hostelworld is used by a lot of backpackers around the globe. It’s one of the best websites to find some amazing hostels. Hostelworld is perfect for those of you who are backpacking alone and are looking for an affordable bed in a social place. We’ve used Hostelworld on many occasions during our trips around the world.
Trusted Housesitters
This is something we always want to do but never found the right time and place for. Trusted Housesitters is a portal where you housesit and take care of someone’s pet while they’re away. In return you live in their home for free! It’s such a great idea to help each other out like this – but you need to spend some time to look for a good match.
Tours & Tickets
Viator
Viator is a great place to find tours, tickets, and activities – especially in North America, South America, and Europe.
Get Your Guide
GetYourGuide is another popular website to find tours, tickets, and activities. We found that it’s very good to use in Europe and Asia.
Klook
We haven’t had the chance to use Klook yet, but have heard good things about this website for booking tours, tickets, and activities in Asia.
Transportation
Flixbus
Flixbus is one of the best bus operators in Europe. We’ve used Flixbus in Denmark, Germany, Belgium, The Netherlands, and Portugal so far.
12go.asia
12go.asia is a great website for booking transportation in Asia. We’ve used 12go in both Thailand and Vietnam – it was completely hassle-free.
Busbud
We haven’t used Busbud yet, but so far we found it the only reliable booking portal for bus transfer in far away places like Patagonia. So make sure to check it out.
